Motorised curtains in India indicatively cost Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000 per window for the motor, track and installation, with fabric usually extra. A 2–3 BHK apartment typically spends Rs 1 to 3.5 lakh, and a villa Rs 3 to 10 lakh or more. Motor quality, track length, wired or battery power and smart integration decide the price.
In most homes, curtains follow the same routine. Someone opens them every morning and someone closes them every night, tugging heavy blackout fabric along a track that sticks halfway. In the bedroom, the sun wakes everyone earlier than planned. In the living room, the TV screen disappears in afternoon glare.
In a home with motorised curtains, the morning looks different. At 7 am, the sheers glide open on their own. On a hot afternoon, the blackouts close before the room heats up. At night, one “Good Night” button closes every curtain and switches off every light.
This guide explains the types of motorised curtains and blinds, what they cost in India, and how to plan them so they work smoothly for years.
Who is this guide for?
- Homeowners building or renovating who want curtains planned with the interiors
- Villa and penthouse owners with large or hard-to-reach windows
- Apartment owners looking for a simple upgrade without rewiring
- Interior designers specifying curtains, blinds and automation together
What are motorised curtains?
Motorised curtains are curtains or blinds moved by a quiet electric motor, controlled from a remote, wall keypad, app, voice assistant or schedule instead of by hand.
They work with most styles: double sheer-and-blackout curtains, roller blinds, Roman blinds and zebra blinds. Our motorised curtains guide explains how the systems work in more detail.
Which types of motorised curtains and blinds are there?
The right type depends on the window, the room and how much light control you want.
| Type | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Motorised curtain track | Motor pulls fabric along a ceiling or wall track | Living rooms, bedrooms, large glass walls |
| Double track (sheer + blackout) | Two motors, one for each layer | Bedrooms, home theatres, west-facing rooms |
| Motorised roller blind | Fabric rolls up into a tube motor | Offices, kitchens, modern interiors |
| Motorised Roman blind | Fabric folds up in soft pleats | Bedrooms, dining rooms |
| Motorised zebra blind | Alternating sheer and solid bands | Flexible daylight control |
At Brightmatic, we usually recommend a double track in bedrooms and living rooms. It lets the sheers soften daylight by day and the blackouts close fully at night, each with its own scene.

What affects motorised curtain cost?
Six factors decide most of the price.
- Motor quality and noise. Premium motors are quieter, smoother and last longer.
- Track length and shape. Long, curved or bay-window tracks cost more.
- Fabric weight. Heavy blackout and velvet curtains need stronger motors.
- Wired or battery. Wired motors suit new builds. Battery motors suit retrofits.
- Single or double track. Sheer plus blackout means two motors per window.
- Integration. Linking curtains to KNX, lighting scenes and schedules adds programming.
Wired or battery motors: which should you choose?
Choose wired motors for new builds and renovations, and battery motors when you can’t add wiring.
| Factor | Wired motor | Battery motor |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | New homes, renovations | Existing homes, rentals |
| Wiring needed | Power point near each track | None |
| Maintenance | None | Periodic recharging |
| Integration | Excellent, including KNX | Good with smart hubs |
| Look | Fully concealed | Small battery pack may be visible |
How should you plan motorised curtains?
Most problems are avoided by planning curtains with the false ceiling and electrical layout.
- Concealed pelmets or ceiling recesses hide the track and motor completely.
- Power points should be placed at the motor end of each track before plastering.
- Leave enough stacking space so open curtains don’t block the glass.
- Plan scenes with lighting. “Movie” closes the curtains and dims the lights together. See our lighting scenes guide.
- Use schedules to close west-facing curtains on summer afternoons.
Are motorised curtains worth it?
- Is it expensive? They cost more than manual tracks, but they protect fabric, furniture and floors from sun and wear, and remove a daily chore.
- Is it complicated? No. One button, a remote or a schedule does everything.
- What can go wrong? Underpowered motors, noisy tracks, no power point at the right place and poor stacking space.
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Choosing motors too weak for heavy blackout fabric
- Forgetting power points before the walls are finished
- Leaving the track visible instead of concealed in a pelmet
- Not planning enough stacking space beside windows
- Using separate remotes for every curtain with no central control
- Skipping integration with lighting scenes and schedules
A common myth: motorised curtains are noisy and break easily. In reality, quality motors on well-installed tracks are very quiet and run smoothly for many years.
Expert recommendation from Brightmatic
For most homes, we recommend wired, quiet motors on concealed double tracks in bedrooms and living rooms, roller blinds for kitchens and studies, battery motors only where wiring isn’t possible, and integration with KNX lighting scenes and schedules. The KNX Association explains how KNX connects curtains, lighting and climate in one system.
Brightmatic designs and installs motorised curtains and blinds as part of lighting control and home automation for apartments, villas and premium homes.
